Remembering Jazz: A poem by Jeanie Axton

Remembering Jazz (Our Golden Cocker Spaniel 2005-2017)

Remembering
The puppy in our son’s lap
Golden soft coat
Wagging tail
Bright eyes

Remembering
Dog obedience lessons
Walks round the block
Runs in the pines
Swims in the pool

Remembering
Escaping out of the gate
Tail wagging when returning home
Climbing through kid’s windows
Snoozing in her favourite chair

Remembering
Doggy Christmas stockings
Budget hair clips
A Pinterest Album
Snapchats and Selfies

Remembering
An old dog sleeping at the gate
Watery eyes
A slow walk
A golden ager

The Space in our yard
Now empty and silent
The Space in our heart
Full of memories

Remembering …….

Jeanie Axton lives with her husband Nick, her dog and cat and three chickens in the beautiful South East of South Australian Mt Gambier, famously known for its Blue Lake. A secondary teacher at a local Lutheran College, Jeanie has been dabbling in the area of children nonsense poems for many years. She expresses the comedy in animal antics and in her poetry.
