Footy fanatics

A new survey by leading UK pet insurance company Tesco Pet Insurance has revealed that footy fans love naming their furry friends after their sporting heroes. And which sports star’s name proved to be most popular with pet owners?
After researching more than half a million pet names, Manchester United’s star striker Wayne Rooney easily beat David Beckham to snatch the top spot on the list, with former Brazillian football star Pele rounding out the top three.
With their reputation as one of the top teams in the UK, it comes as no surprise that current and former players from Manchester United hold five of the top 11 positions, with Liverpool coming in second with two names in the list. Arsenal also deserves an honorable mention as it is the only team to have pets named after the club itself.

The top 11 pet names were:

    1. Rooney                   7. Ronaldo
    2. Beckham                8. Ferdinand
    3. Pele                         9. Keegan
    4. Kolo                         10. Giggs
    5. Figo                         11. Sven
    6. Fernando

Choosing Chihuahuas

Beverly Hills Chihuahua (Disney)

Los Angles is famous for being one of the glitz and glamour capitals of the world, but what else is it renowned for? For being a city of Chihuahua lovers, of course!
A recent survey conducted by the Los Angeles Times has found that there are almost 60,000 of the pint-sized pooches currently registered in the county, making them the most popular breed in the area. Of these, 1,262 Chiuahuas are clearly pampered pooches, having been named Princess by their owners. The names Chiquita and Lucky also rated highly with Chihuahua lovers.

Bella

The doggy body

Move over Elle MacPherson, there’s a new, hot model in town — Bella, the former model and fashionista’s glamorous pooch.

A five-year-old Labradoodle, Bella has been chosen to be the furry face of Dogside.com, an up-and-coming doggy fashion label in the UK, and will model everything from coats to scarves in a national ad campaign. According to the London Daily Mail, Bella is becoming more well-known in mutt modelling circles as “The Dog’s Body” — a reference to MacPherson’s days in front of the camera when she was known as “The Body”.
And Bella’s new gig comes at a hefty price too, with MacPherson apparently getting a five-figure sum to let her precious pooch model the designer doggy wares.
