The name game What’s your pooch’s name? Is it a classic mutt moniker like Fido, Rusty or Rover? Well, it seems like these once-beloved pet names may be a thing of the past, with dog owners now choosing popular human names when selecting a namesake for their four-legged friends. So why are human names becoming more popular for pets? “The Fido and Fluffy days are long gone — now it’s all about Max, Bella and Sophie,” Dr Mark Perissinotto, VetShopAustralia’s head vet, says. “With nine out of 10 top dog names being human names, it’s clear that more people are thinking of their dogs as a substitute child or another member of the family, rather than just a pet. This growing trend reflects a stronger bond between humans and their pets and a major change in the way we view them and their roles.” Don’t believe us? Then check out Veterinary Pet Insurance’s (VPI) list of the most popular pet names for 2010! 1. Max 2. Molly 3. Buddy 4. Bella 5. Lucy

| Living the ruff life Do you think your furry friends are pampered? Then wait until you hear about three pampered pooches from California in the US who are living in luxury after their owner built a mansion for them. Yes, you read right, a mansion! Some dogs whine if they’re stuck outside in the doghouse, but Chelsea, Darla and Coco Puff certainly don’t have any reason to complain. Costing an massive $20,000, the pampered pups’ new mini Victorian Mansion is quite possibly the most luxurious and extravagant doghouse in the world and features hardwood floors, central heating, air-conditioning, ceiling fans, hand-made curtains, elegant wallpaper and mini blinds. Surrounded by a quaint white picket fence, the doggy mansion also boasts elegant furniture galore, including beds for the three dogs and an adorable leopard lounge. Owner Tammy Kassis has one last item on her shopping list — a small plasma television for the spoiled trio, of course! Click here to check out more snaps of the spectacular mutt mansion!

Meet Marmaduke Did you absolutely adore Marley and Me and go totally ballistic over Beverly Hills Chihuahua? If you wanted to yell a big “YES!” at the top of your lungs, then you’re definitely going to love Marmaduke, a new movie about a lovable and oh-so funny Great Dane coming to the silver screen in June! Based on a comic strip of the same name, this fun family flick tells the tale of Marmaduke — the world’s most lovable Great Dane — whose life is turned upside-down when his owners, the Winslow, family decides to move from cosy Kansas to sunny California. Faced with making a new bunch of furry friends, getting stuck in the middle of a war between the neighbourhood mutts and purebred pups, and falling in love with the pooch of his dreams, it seems that life isn’t always easy for this gentle giant. Want to find out more or check out the super cool features on the official Marmaduke website, then jump on to www.themarmadukemovie.com
