Hey kids!

Put our favourite four-legged friends, zany songstress Lady Gaga, and a handful of crazy canine costumes together and what do you get? Why “The Doggie Gaga Project”, of course! If you haven’t heard a peep about this pawsome project, then it looks like you’ll just have to keep reading to find out all about it...

What other tantalising titbits have we dug up for you this issue? A list of common items found around the home that are harmful to pets (beware of chocolate!) and a tale that reminds us that good things come in small packages.

Catch ya soon!

Doggone gaga

The whole world is going gaga over Lady Gaga at the moment, so is it any surprise that our intelligent furry friends are as well? Five pooches from San Francisco, US, have definitely been getting into the spirit of things and were all too happy to don crazy canine costumes inspired by the sassy singer’s wardrobe and strike a pose for award-winning pooch photographer Jesse Freidin.

After becoming a worldwide hit with doggy lovers, loyal Lady Gaga fans, and everyone in between, people from far and wide have been trying to lock in Freidin to shoot their pooches a la Lady Gaga. Looks like they’ll have to step in line!

Keep an eye on your pet...

Sick pooch

We all love getting yummy chocolate eggs and bunnies at Easter, but did you know that these tasty treats are actually really toxic for our furry friends? If not, it sounds like you need to brush up on some common items found in and around the home that are harmful to pets.

Here, we’ve done the hard work for you and have dug up a list of the top toxins to keep out of your pooch’s reach, which has been kindly compiled by the friendly vets at the Pet Poison Helpline in the US…

  1. Artificial sweeteners: Just tell your pooch that he is sweet enough!
  2. Human medicines: Keep them safely secured in your medicine cabinet.
  3. Flowers such as lilies, tulips and daffodils: Pretty, but pretty poisonous too.
  4. Chocolate: Be sure to store your Easter eggs out of your pooch’s reach!
  5. Fertilisers: Eww, stinky! Don’t even go there...
  6. Pest control products: Your pooch isn’t a pesky pest, so make sure he doesn’t go near anything like rodent or snail baits.

If you think your pooch has accidently come into contact with one of these toxic items, tell your parents immediately and take your pooch to the vet as soon as you can.

Lulu the pint-sized Chihuahua

The little things...

Meet Lulu, a ten-week-old pint-sized Chihuahua who may just be the smallest dog in the world. Although breeder Jean Tindall of Bradford, UK, knew that her latest litter of pups would be short statured — they are Chihuahuas, after all — she wasn’t quite prepared for how small Lulu would grow (or not grow!) to be.

“I've seen a lot of Chihuahuas, but never one as small as Lulu,” Tindall says of her four-inch long pup. “Even among other tiny dogs she really stands out because she is so tiny.”

“You can't believe she's out of the same litter because the rest are twice as big as her.”

Tindall’s daughter Tracey agrees: “I've spoken to a few people and no-one has ever seen anything like Lulu. It's amazing just how small she is.”

"Lulu is quite a mischievous little thing, she seems to come alive at night when everyone else is asleep. She's perfectly healthy and very lively, just small."
