Welcome to the next instalment of Dog Tails. When clients visit us for studio pet portraits, they often recount the stories of their dogs lives. With each dog being different, so is each story. Some are happy tales, some inspiring, some sad, but each one ends with love as their dog subjects find a place and person to call their own.

In early April we had a visit from Anita and her 3 year old Cocker Spaniel x, Bailey.  Anita says “I started looking for another dog December 2012 after I had to put my beloved Cocker Spaniel Sammy to sleep in March 2012. I didn’t want to get another pup from a pet shop (having learnt about puppy farms) so I started looking at registered breeders in Perth.

I was in Melbourne for the Australian Open Tennis late in January and I had been looking online in Melbourne every day. On the day I was due to fly out there was a new ad for pups in Seymour about 1 hour north of Melbourne. I ended up travelling to Seymour with a friend and her kids and chose Bailey. I was originally after another female but Bailey was so eager to get to us, stepping over his siblings to be first in line. I extended my stay and brought him back to Perth the following afternoon.

I took Bailey to puppy school at the Doubleview Vet Centre and he loved playing with a cute little pup called Dora. We only went another two times and they played mostly together. A couple times we had to separate them so they would interact with the other pups.

About one month later I was at the park and Bailey just shot off towards a lady with a black dog. After I caught up to him, I realised the other dog was Dora and her owner Sam.

Another 6 weeks went past and each time they saw each other they would run off together. Bailey now spends one day a week at Dora’s house while I’m at work, and they get to keep each other company and run riot. Bailey loves Dora a lot and also loves Dora’s humans, Sam and Adrian and their new baby girl Eva.”
